This is a collection of old photos of the area around Wigmore Gillingham Kent originally from my grandmother's archives and subsequently added by contributions from readers in the Wigmore area. She lived in Woodside for 60 years having built her own property in 1939. In addition a few more recent scenes have been taken around the area.

There was a huge fire at Parkwood Junior School, Deanwood Drive in February 1979 where virtually the whole school was gutted. The fire started around 10pm and 40 firefighters were needed to tackle it. Police didn't rule out arson but I've not seen any subsequent follow ups to show if it was ever found to be deliberate or not.
Headmaster Mr A de B Apps was called to the fire, caretaker at the time was Mr Ted Divers. Charles Dunford, caretaker of the Infants school was the last to leave the building before the fire took hold

Photo of Locomotive No. 73088, one of 12 BR Standard 4-6-0 engines built in the 1950s which from 1955 to 1959 pulled express trains serving the Kent Coast at Rainham station in front of Wakeley's Oast which was converted to a Community centre in the 1970s

This photo of child with old style pram was taken in the garden on 28 Woodside Wigmore Kent in the summer of 1946 so within a year of the Second World War ending.
