This photograph was taken in September 2007 when work was underway renewing the frontage of Jacksons Estate Agents at the corner of Rainham High Street and Orchard Street and shows the old sign for E&E Blacker Sweet shop. Lots of local residents have memories of visiting the sweet shop before or after going to the Royal Cinema that was situated next door. Bug Hutch Rainham - Royal Cinema
Looking in various Kelly's Directories I find the shop now numbered 76, High Street listed as empty in 1908, Miss Mary Maria Lane shopkeeper in 1926 and as a Confectioners with the name Parker in 1957, Murray in 1963 and Blacker in 1967 and 1971. I wonder how many people remember these shopkeepers and the changes.
