Thames Gateway Airport/Isle of Grain Terminal/Boris Island Airport

The possibility of a Thames Gateway Hub Airport on the Isle of Grain seemed to take a small step nearer today with the announcement by the government that "all" options were being considered for increasing airport capacity in the South East of England to retain the UK as one of the major air destinations. Alternative proposals from Mayor of London Boris Johnson, given the tag of Boris Island that would be built in the estuary would also be considered under this review.

Although Rainham would not be affected by the building and loss of land this view from Rainham shows how close an airport would be and the impact that it would have on the area through the noise, pollution and general loss of views out onto the river. The view out over the river below would be in almost direct line of sight of the airport and if ever built this would be a view of planes taking off and landing 24 hours per day.
