After the Second World War there was a demand for housing that was satisfied by creating prefabricated housing that were known as "prefabs". You can see the prefabs in the distance in this photo of Rainham from 1958 for Sunderland Square/Scott Avenue/Russells Avenue. These prefabs were demolished in the early 1980s and new houses built in their place.

The photo below shows the same area in 1921 before the prefabs were built and you can see all the woods that existed before as well as how rural the area looked.

The photo below shows Sunderland Square in around 1982. The top of the picture is Mierscourt Road and the junction has been reconfigured but the terrace of houses hasn't yet been blocked off.

The photo below shows the view in 2004 once the prefabs had been demolished and new houses put in their place with what is now Sunderland Drive and Thompson Close as well as some new houses on Scott Avenue and Solomon Road in Rainham.
