Milk was delivered to Rainham by army helicopter on 16th January 1987 after snow prevented delivery lorries getting through.
Unigate Dairies asked emergency services to airlift 18000 pints into their depot in Wigmore Road which had been without supplies for five days The milk was taken by road from the dairy’s processing plant in Headcorn to Invicta Barracks in Maidstone where the helicopter was standing by.
It landed on Kings Frith playing field at the back of the Rainham depot.
