The old police station in Rainham Kent closed in 2007. The site remained derelict for some years with the building boarded up and advertised for sale. Presumably the recession affected the company looking to redevelop the site.

As of 2013 the site of the Rainham police station has now been cleared and the former police station building demolished. In late 2013 the construction of a new block of flats has now begun.

The photo below would have been taken in the 1960s or 1970s when the station was in full use. Interestingly it appears that the building to the right was still being constructed from the debris in front of it - the windows in the later photo alsio seem to be missing so presumably were added at a later date.

The darker building on the right side was built in the 1970s as an extension to the lighter colored building - I vaguely remember that the Rainham Police Station was closed during part of the construction. The Rainham Police Station was then to cover all of the Gillingham borough.

I believe my Grandfather may have worked at Rainham police station before he, my grandmother and their two children, my father and aunt respectively immigrated to Australia. I am trying to track down some of the family history pertaining to my grandparents, especially my grandmother, as she passed away shortly after their arrival here in Australia, and I don't have much information from her side.

To some of us this was the new police station, beside the new library when it moved from a shop in the high street, about 1959?

This link take you to a picture of Rainham Police Station, I think it may have been taken sometime in the late sixties looking at the cars in front of the building
